Bill and Kristin Morris
|
Bill and Kristin Morris come from families that passed down their music from generation to generation like most families pass down recipes.
Bill Morris learned old-time and early country music from family gatherings in Western North Carolina and Virginia. In addition to storytelling and vocals, he plays guitar, banjo, mandolin and harmonica. His love for old ballads, cowboy songs and railroad music heard as a boy compelled him to create his own record label, IVY CREEK RECORDINGS, which is recognized by the national parks system as a solid producer of interpretive and educational albums. He has performed at universities, museums and numerous festivals, for Elderhostel groups and for National Public Radio and The North Carolina Center for Public Television.
Kristin Kuester Morris is a writer and lover of tales about myth and magic. She began her career as a journalist in several major Southern cities and, after earning an M.A. in writing, currently teaches English for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. In addition to writing and telling original stories that center on railroad lore, Appalachia and multicultural themes, she writes songs, plays guitar, and sings professionally with her husband and partner Bill Morris.
She has performed at the Asheville Folk Heritage and Dance Festival, the N.C. Transportation Museum, the N.C. Center for Advancement of Teaching, Elderhostel programs, Charlotte’s Festival in the Park and Central Piedmont Community College, as well as ECKANKAR conferences and small festivals held throughout the region.
